OAUSTECH Matriculates 4,500, Urges Diligence, Good Conduct

    • February 10, 2026

The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Nigeria, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has admonished the newly matriculated students, numbering over 4,500, to exert themselves diligently, engage earnestly with their academic pursuits, and uphold the law both within and beyond the university campuses.

Prof. Ologunorisa delivered these exhortations while addressing the new students during the 15th matriculation of the University, which took place on Wednesday, 4th February 2026, at the institution's main campus in Okitipupa.

In his congratulatory address to the students, he emphasized that they have made a commendable choice in selecting OAUSTECH, assuring them that they are positioned to receive a world-class education and acquire 21st-century competencies that will empower them to excel and compete favourably with their peers globally.

"One hallmark that distinguishes us as an institution is the caliber of our graduates. That is our product. Our alumni are thriving across the globe. Over the past six to seven years, all of our graduates who have pursued PhDs in the United States have transitioned from their first degrees directly to doctoral studies without the intermediate step of obtaining a master's degree," he remarked.

"Numerous graduates from this University are achieving remarkable success both domestically and internationally. I therefore encourage you to remain cognizant of your purpose here. You are here to acquire knowledge and skills that will shape your future. Embrace the university experience and allow it to transform you. This is a pivotal moment in your career. You are no longer secondary school students; you are now university scholars. University signifies a community of scholars. Collaborate respectfully with your professors, lecturers, staff, and fellow members of the university community for a prosperous future," the Vice-Chancellor advised.

Ologunorisa further implored the freshers to embody obedience, respect, lawfulness, and to consistently exhibit good character, underscoring that degrees conferred by the institution are predicated on both character and learning.

"Here, there are established rules of engagement that you must adhere to. No fighting or dishonesty will be tolerated. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for cultism and other illicit activities. Should you engage in fighting, cheating during examinations, or cult-related activities, you will graduate without ceremony.

Remember, no one is exempt from these regulations. Most of the rules are outlined in the students' handbook; study them diligently, as you would a sacred text. By taking your matriculation oath, you have pledged to uphold good conduct and comply with the university's rules and regulations."

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the new students to commit themselves to hard work and rule adherence, with the hope that some will ascend to roles such as Vice-Chancellors, ministers, ambassadors, governors, presidents, and captains of industry in the future.

He reminded them that the university is not yet residential, emphasizing the necessity of respecting and abiding by the norms of the host communities in which they reside to ensure a peaceful and harmonious living environment. "If it is advised that you refrain from wandering after 9:00 pm, please heed that advice for your own safety," the VC urged.

In addition, Prof. Ologunorisa reassured the students that they are welcome to approach him in his office or even in the car park should they encounter issues or harassment that their Heads of Departments, Deans, or Student Affair Officers are unable to resolve. "We serve as parental figures for you. Please, commit to your studies, and success will undoubtedly follow," he affirmed.

The Vice-Chancellor noted in his address that the unprecedented increase in student enrollment during his tenure has significantly contributed to the economic prosperity and transformation of the host communities and the Okitipupa metropolis at large.

The Chief Executive Officer of OAUSTECH took the opportunity to appeal to landlords within the host communities to consider reducing rental costs to alleviate the financial burdens faced by parents striving to provide a conducive educational environment for their children.
