    BRIEF DESCRIPTION/HISTORY OF SCHOOL

    The School of Computing emerged from the growing importance of computing disciplines and the increasing demand for skilled professionals in technology-driven sectors. The School of Computing which was formerly the School of Information and Communication Technology is one of the new schools that were recently established by Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria. The school was created in 2024, and it commenced operation in the 2024/2025 academic session with the Department of Computer Science, which was formerly under the School of Science.

    In October 2024, Dr. Daniel Akinyele was appointed as the Acting Dean of the School of Information and Communication Technology. Thereafter, in August 2025, Prof. A. J. Ikuomola was appointed as the Substantive Dean to oversee the activities of the School of Information and Communication Technology. The current Dean, Prof. A. J. Ikuomola formally proposed and advocated for the change of name of School of Information and Communication Technology (SICT) to the School of Computing, in line with the provisions in the recently introduced Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

    The Department of Cybersecurity was officially established with the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October, 2025 and the approved department commenced academic activities in the 2025/2026 academic session.

    The evolution of computing into a standalone academic discipline led to the formal creation of the School of Computing which currently comprises of two departments; Department of Computer Science and Department of Cybersecurity. Since its establishment, the school has been committed to advancing education, research, and innovation in the fields of computer science and cybersecurity.

    The university, in its wisdom and vision for global academic relevance, is currently putting up plans with concerted efforts to add two new programmes to the existing two programmes in the school in the next academic session. These programmes are Data Science and Software Engineering. This development is driven by the University’s mission of becoming one of the leading internationally recognized institutions in teaching and research in the field of computing.

    The school has recorded remarkable achievements in research, partnerships, and graduate employability. Its graduates have become leading professionals in academia, industry, government, and entrepreneurship, contributing to national and global development through technology and innovation.

    The emergence of the School of Computing at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State, at this present time, is, therefore, closely linked with the accelerating global trend in the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, dedicated software applications, smart devices/appliances, information security, information systems and science, etc., to address real-world issues and improve people’s lives.

    The School of Computing is currently having two Departments as presented below;

    1. Computer Science
    2. Cybersecurity

    The broad objectives of the school are to:

    • Ensure quality training on the application of sound theory and practices of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to provide practical solutions to real-world computer-oriented problems;
    • Advance the theoretical and practical knowledge of computing by developing effective means of solving technical challenges in computing for meeting the current market realities and demands based on best global practices;
    • Produce graduates with the required knowledge to meet the computer technology needs in different sectors of the economy, such as medical, commerce, agriculture, administration, finance, security and defence, engineering, aviation, maritime, etc.
    • Provide training and technical knowledge on the integration of cybersecurity solutions to safeguard data/information, cyberspace, computer systems, network infrastructure of industrial and business organizations, etc.
    • Provide sound technical principles and knowledge on the development of solutions-driven, affordable and efficient software and dedicated tools that meet the users’ specified requirements;
    • Produce graduates with advanced knowledge and competency in artificial intelligence, evolutionary computing, machine learning, big data and data analytics for solving complex scientific problems in other facets of human endeavors.
