ADMINISTRATIVE DEPARTMENT:

The office of the university librarian is the policy-making nerve center of the library. Prof. Fredrick O. Ajegbomogun (CLN) the University Librarian, is in charge of the library and reports to the Vice-Chancellor for its smooth administration and successful management.

TECHNICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT:

This department is referred to as the "engine room of the library," because it is the department that is responsible for the acquisition, processing and security of all library materials.  In order to achieve the effectiveness of the aforementioned, the technical department of the library has the following sections:

1. Acquisitions Section: It is a section that is saddled with the responsibility of how books and other library materials are acquired for the library. The section is also responsible for the following: ordering, receiving, invoice payment, subscription maintenance (including renewals, claiming, serial check-in, and updates), and processing of donations.

2. Cataloguing and Classification Section: It is the section that provides a means of bringing all books on the same subject together in one place. The staff are responsible for the cataloguing and classification of all the OAUSTECH library materials using the Library of Congress Classification Scheme, Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), online cataloguing.

READERS’ SERVICES DEPARTMENT:

This department provides assistance to the library users for effective, efficient, and easy access and retrieval of library materials for use. The readers’ services are customer-centered. The staff sees to the satisfaction of the library users in order to promote the image of the library among the university community. Sections in the Readers’ Services include:

1. Circulation Section: The circulation section is the first meeting point for library users with the library staff. It is usually referred to as the "image-maker" of the library because it is the point where users have direct interactions with the library staff. It offers lending services as well as facilities for returning loaned items. User registrations are handled at the circulation desk.

2. Reference Section: The section houses the library's reference materials, which include: Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Bibliographies, Atlas, Who is Who, Year Book, Central Bank Publications, Reports, Curriculum Studies, Women in Today’s World, General History of Africa, etc. These reference sources are those materials that are not meant to be read from the front cover to the back cover.

3. Serials Section: Current and backlogged issues of both foreign and local journals, magazines, newspapers, and special collections such as government publications, inaugural lecture series, rare books, conference proceedings, annual proceedings, university publications, news reports, and other significant collections such as daily newspapers such as Tribune, Guardian, and Punch are included in the serials section. 

AUTOMATION DEPARTMENT

Library Management Software & E-Resources

The library is using KOHA Library Management Software (the best practice in world knowledge management) for its operational services. Its relevance is based on system purposes, processing, workflow, and resource management that allow smooth operation. Our E-Library has 125 workstations, plus a server, one projector, and one printer. We subscribe to printed and electronic academic journals, while users can access electronic databases such as http://www.nigerianvirtualibrary.com and other e-journals services like AJOL, http://www.ajol.info, JSTOR, DOAJ, PLANT SCIENCE, ALUKA, EBMCENTER, E-LIBRARY USA, HEPSEU, and other aggregated databases that provide links and access to full-text articles and abstracts. Recently, the university was granted online free access by Research4Life till 2025 (AGORA http://www.agora-journals.fao.org; GOALI http://www.goali.ilo.org/content/en/journals.php). HINARI, available at http://extranet.who.int/hinari/en/journals.php.OARE, http://www.oaresciences.org Academic journals; boabab e-book catalogue; www.gutenberg.org; www.freetechbooks.com Offline databases, including TEEAL on CD-ROM format; and Calibre e-book resources are all available for use. The section maintains the library’s technology resources, such as servers, OPACs, scanners, and other electronic devices. SERVICE PROVIDED @ OAUSTECH LIBRARY

The admission of users to the OAUSTECH library is based on registration, where users are expected to obtain an authorized library pass, which enables their free entry and access to the library materials. The library is also open to staff of the institutions for their teaching, research, and learning. They are encouraged to use the extra-library services, which allow lecturers to borrow a maximum of four books, PG students to borrow four books, and undergraduate students to borrow two books for four and two weeks, respectively. Users from other institutions or organizations are allowed to use the library with an introductory letter from their organization. The above is complemented by the provision of information in electronic formats like CD-ROMs, diskettes, VCDs, and online and offline databases. The unit has multi-media projectors and cameras to cover educational events.

We are hoping to provide 24-hour services in the near future.

Primary literature: Such as theses and dissertations, government documents, university-generated documents, Gift and Exchange publications, Inaugural lectures, special collections like the publications of international organizations and agencies, national and local materials, etc., also enjoy daily patronage. The OAUSTECH Library enjoys a depository status for all publications emanating from the ACT.

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI): The library uses this to send information gathered from other sources to cognates. Schools, departments, or individual lecturers depend on the target audience. For instance, the library sends information on research grants, scholarships, or websites that are relevant to their curriculum wherever such notices are received. 

Current Awareness Service (CAS): Schools are sent notices of recently accessed and processed books to create awareness. The library used the university news bulletin to announce recent accessions, new services, and staff.

Specialized and General Reference Services: Services are available in the Reference Section, which are strictly for consultation. Where the library does not possess the required material, referral letters are issued to such readers to visit other libraries where such materials are available. All these methods have been employed to ensure that the staff are able to adequately provide quality service through the acquisition of relevant information and also to ensure that students at every level acquire an independent approach to learning using information to achieve their goals both in and out of the walls of the university.

Reprographic Services: The library has a reprographic unit that caters for the maintenance of the library materials such as binding, re-binding of mutilated books, provision of printing and photocopy facilities with reasonable charge and runs according to copyright agreements.
