    OAUSTECH Eulogises Prof. Ehinola for Outstanding Contributions to University Development

    The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, alongside the University Management and Staff, has commended Prof. Olugbenga Ehinola, the Aret Adams Chair in Petroleum Geology at the University of Ibadan, for his outstanding contributions to the growth and advancement of OAUSTECH.

    Speaking during a special commendation event held at the University’s Council Chamber on Thursday, Prof. Ologunorisa described Prof. Ehinola as “a true friend of the University and a distinguished scholar whose selfless service has significantly impacted our academic and research landscape.”

    The Vice-Chancellor noted that Prof. Ehinola has played a pivotal role in strengthening OAUSTECH’s School of Earth and Mineral Sciences through mentorship, curriculum development support, and facilitation of research collaborations. “His expertise in petroleum geology and his commitment to capacity building have opened new frontiers for our staff and students. He has consistently made himself available for public lectures, workshops, and as an external examiner, enriching our academic culture,” Prof. Ologunorisa said.

    Prof. Ehinola, a renowned geologist and first occupant of the prestigious Aret Adams Chair in Geology at the University of Ibadan, has also been instrumental in linking OAUSTECH to key industry stakeholders and research networks. His interventions have enhanced the University’s visibility in applied geosciences and supported the establishment of new laboratories for teaching and research.

    Adding to the tributes, Dr Paul Owombo, Acting Director, Centre for Governance and Business Technology, pointed out that Prof. Ehinola’s contribution to the University is impactful and felt everywhere.

    The Dean, School of Earth Sciences, Prof. Oluwajana, commended him for his contribution to the School, describing him as “the father of the School of Earth Sciences.” Similarly, Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, Acting Director of Academic Planning, appreciated Prof. Ehinola for supporting her when she held the first international conference of the Olusegun Agagu Leadership Academy.

    In unison, Mr. Idowu Omowole and Prof. Soji Fakoya applauded him for his exceptional humility.

    In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Development of OAUSTECH, Prof. Dipo Theophilus Akomolafe, stated that the University community deeply appreciates Prof. Ehinola’s “unwavering dedication to the ideals of excellence and nation-building through science.” He added that the contributions align with OAUSTECH’s vision to become a leading centre for innovation in earth sciences and blue economy studies.

    Responding, Prof. Ehinola expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing OAUSTECH as “a fast-rising institution with enormous potential to transform the coastal economy of Ondo State and Nigeria.” He pledged continued support for the University’s academic programmes, research drive, and efforts in blue economy innovation.

    “I am honoured by this commendation. OAUSTECH’s focus on science and technology for sustainable development is commendable, and I will continue to partner with the University to build human capital in geosciences and related fields,” Prof. Ehinola stated.

    Prof. Ehinola had spent his accumulated leave at OAUSTECH, after his completing his Sabbatical Leave at the University, leading to the establishment of the School of Earth Sciences. This, houses Applied Geophysics, Applied Geology, Marine Science, and Meteorology. He was the pioneer Dean, School of Earth Sciences, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Chairman of the University Publication Committee. He served as a think-tank to the University.

    The event was attended by Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and members of the University community, who all joined the Vice-Chancellor in celebrating Prof. Ehinola’s contributions.

    OAUSTECH, established to drive technological and economic development in Nigeria’s coastal region, has in recent years prioritised partnerships with leading academics and institutions to accelerate its research output and community impact.

    Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa was established by the Ondo State government in 2008. It was initially named as Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH).

    It is a technology-based institution, which aims at providing the needed manpower training for industrial and technological development of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.
