Prof. Ologunorisa stated this during the inauguration of the Student Union Executive for the 2024/2025 academic session on Monday, 17 February, 2025 at the main campus of the University in Okitipupa.
He highlighted that while challenges between the Management and Student Union body are inevitable, they must be addressed with maturity, understanding, openness, and transparency.
The renowned Climate scientist maintained that student activism should be constructive and forward-thinking, conducted with wisdom, dignity, and maturity. He advised the student union executives to shun actions that would not project the positive image of the university.
Acknowledging the partnership between students and the university, the Vice-Chancellor urged for harmonious collaboration to enhance the university's reputation and ensure continued success for all stakeholders.
Under his leadership, the University has maintained a stable academic calendar with no disruptions in the past three years. The student population has significantly increased, with plans for new schools to be established, including the School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and School of Maritime Transport and Logistics.
In his welcome address, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Daniel Adekeye, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his responsiveness to student matters.
The newly elected Student Union President commended the Vice-Chancellor for his transparency and fair conduct during the recent elections, pledging to prioritize student welfare and uphold the values of transparency and accountability.
The event was attended by key University officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and University Bursar.
The oath of office for the new Student Union Executive was administered by the Head of the University Legal Unit, Bar. Pius Oyewumi.
