Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has emphasized the institution's unique location as a strategic advantage for Blue Economy excellence.
Speaking at the SIWES directors and coordinators meeting in OAUSTECH on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Prof. Ologunorisa noted that OAUSTECH's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and major shipping routes positions it for marine research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
"OAUSTECH is perfectly placed to harness the vast potential of the Blue Economy, driving sustainable development and economic growth in Ondo State and beyond," he stated.
He identified key drivers of Blue Economy excellence as the NUC-approved programmes in Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and others, and the proposed Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, fostering collaborative research, policy development, and innovation.
The professor of climate science highlighted the benefits of OAUSTECH's location as access to rich natural resources for research and development, proximity to major local industries, facilitating partnerships and knowledge transfer, and opportunities for cultural exchange and international collaboration.
Prof. Ologunorisa reaffirmed OAUSTECH's commitment to investing in infrastructure, faculty development, and research initiatives to drive innovation and entrepreneurship.
Alhaji Sule Rauf, Area Manager, Industrial Training Fund, Akure Area Office, emphasized the importance of collaboration between institutions for the success of the SIWES programme.
Dr. Ajoke Gbadamosi, OAUSTECH SIWES coordinator, encouraged colleagues to exchange ideas, address challenges, and explore innovative approaches to improving SIWES implementation.
With its strategic location and focus on Blue Economy excellence, OAUSTECH is poised to become a leading institution in Nigeria's coastal region.
