ANCOPSS tasks OAUSTECH to mount education courses

    • November 26, 2022

Stakeholders in education industry in Ondo State have requested that Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa mount courses in education to meet the needs of teachers and school administrators in Okitipupa and its environs.

The request was made last Thursday, 17 November, 2022 at the monthly meeting of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) held at Igbotako Community Grammar School, Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

The twenty-two principals of public secondary schools in the area unanimously made the request to the Vice-Chancellor of institution, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, who was represented at the meeting by the Deputy Director, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Paul Adeagbo, as part of the university's stakeholders' engagements.

The meeting said mounting post-graduate diploma in education (PGDE) or professional diploma in education (PDE) as well as Master's degree in science and technology education, educational administration and management would go a long way in meeting the needs of teachers and school administrators in the Ondo South Senatorial District of the state.

The principals premised their demand on the dire need for teachers in the area of science and technology for which the institution is known for excellence.

They argued that, when the University starts running programmes in science and technology education, it would drastically reduce the risks which school teachers are exposed to in the course of obtaining professional qualifications and higher degrees in the field of education.

The heads of public schools in Okitipupa further stated that running education courses would help stabilize the school system in the area as well as reduce costs for the teachers because of institution's proximity to the schools in the area.

Responding, OAUSTECH's Deputy Director, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Paul Adeagbo, said that the demand of the critical stakeholders would be conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor who commissioned the Public Relations team to attend the meeting.

Adeagbo assured the veteran school administrators that Prof. Ologunorisa would consider their request and decide as appropriate, saying that OAUSTECH is poised to meet the needs of the immediate and remote environments of the institution.

He emphasized that OAUSTECH would not renege on the tripartite functions of the institution - teaching, research and community service, adding that the university is putting finishing touches to commencing professional masters and Doctorate to develop the blue economy of the coastal region in which the institution is located.

The university's communication specialist revealed that efforts are in top gear to mount programmes leading to the awards of Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology, Bachelor of Nursing Science and Bachelor of Science in Maritime Studies and Nautical Science, in addition to the NUC newly-approved programmes in Management Sciences (Accounting, Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Project Management), which candidates could apply for in 2022/2023 academic session.

The institution's image-maker informed the principals of the partnerships and collaborations that OAUSTECH has with leading universities across the globe, which parents and school administrators could advise students to leverage on for their self-development.

He urged the school heads to advise students to consider OAUSTECH as their first choice owing to its programme offering: JUPEB, preliminary programmes, Top-up programmes, academic masters and Doctoral programmes in the School of Sciences.

Earlier, OAUSTECH PR team, comprising Messrs Adeagbo and Rotimi Adekunle with Mrs. Folasade Adesanoye, in order to encourage student enrollment into the institution had visited Unity Secondary School, Ode-Aye; Stella-Maris College, Okitipupa; Ofedepe Comprehensive High School, Okitipupa; Methodist High School, Okitipupa; Ogundubuja High School, Okitipupa; Idepe High School, Idepe; Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, Iju-Odo; Igbotako Community Grammar School, Igbotako; Lubokun Comprehensive High School, Igbotako; and Moribodo High School, Ilutitun Osoro.
