    OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORY AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL

    The School of Earth Sciences is one of the newly established Schools by the current administration under the leadership of Prof. Temi E. Ologunorisa.  The School of Earth Sciences which came on board upon the National University Commission’s approval in March 2023 commenced academic activities in 2023/2024 Session.

    During the 2023/2024 academic Session two Foundation departments which include Applied Geophysics and Applied Geology were established in the School of Earth Sciences.  A total of 27 students enrolled for Applied Geophysics and 40 students for Applied Geology for the 100 Level bringing the total number of students at 67.  It is gratifying to note that our students have been inaugurated under the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Okitipupa Chapter in October 2024. 

    In 2024/2025 academic section, the students’ enrolment is 35 for Applied Geophysics and 55 for Applied Geology for the new intake.

    Three new departments have been presented at the School board meeting and forwarded to the management for Senate approval.  These include: the department of Marine Science and Oceanography, the department of Remote Sensing and Geography Information System (GIS) and the department of Meteorology and Climate Science.

    Interdisciplinary collaboration: Encouraging partnerships across departments within the university and with external institutions to tackle pressing environmental challenges, such as natural hazard, climate change and resource sustainability.

    Inclusive excellence: Fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

    Teaching and Mentorship:

    Our staff are inspiring educator, committed to providing students with a rigorous and intellectually stimulating learning experience.  They actively mentors undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in their research pursuits and helping them develop the skills needed for successful careers in Earth sciences.

    Beyond Academia:

    The Dean of Earth Sciences believes in the importance of communicating scientific knowledge to the public and he frequently participates in outreach activities, engaging with communities on topics such as natural hazards, climate change mitigation, and sustainable resource management.

    About OAUSTECH

    Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa was established by the Ondo State government in 2008. It was initially named as Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH).

    It is a technology-based institution, which aims at providing the needed manpower training for industrial and technological development of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.
