OAUSTECH STUDENTS SHINE AT NATIONAL MATHEMATICS COMPETITION.

OAUSTECH students have again shined, as they emerged second position overall at the recently concluded “National Mathematics Quiz Competition’’ organized by the National Association of Mathematics Science Students of Nigeria (NAMSSN).

The competition was held during the Annual National Conference of NAMSSN that was held at the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education. Noforija, Epe, Lagos State between 8th and 12th June, 2021.

Those that represented the University at the quiz competition were Oluwakeji Daniel Onabajo, 500 level and Michael Abiola Pius, 300 level, both from the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

Receiving the students in his office, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Roberts Ogunduyile congratulated them for the feat and for making OAUSTECH proud among the comity of higher institutions in Nigeria.

Ogunduyile assured the students that the University would continue to do more to prepare and encourage her students to excel academically.

Speaking in the same vein, the Head of Department, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Dr. AbiodunOyekan lauded the students for the excellent performance, despite the fact that they just got affiliated to the national body and were participating in the competition for the first time.

Dr. Oyekan, who was highly elated about the students’ performance, said the feat is another indication that OAUSTECH has a better future and that the students of the University can compete favourably with students from other institutions within and outside the country.

‘’It is also an indication that the quality of students does not necessarily depend on quantity of facilities, but quality of teaching and determination by the students to excel despite the unfavourable academic condition’’, he stated.

Oyekan therefore appealed to other students in the University to always engage in activities that will project the University positively.

Chatting with OAUSTECH News shortly after presenting their certificates to the Vice-Chancellor, the students said they felt extremely happy participating in such a laudable event with students from other notable universities like OAU, UNILORIN, KWASU, UNILAG, FUTMINNA  and a host of others.

Other students that participated in the NAMSSN 2021 Annual Conference include Akinmolayan Nathaniel Temitope, Akin-AlamuOlamideOyinkansola, Ramoni Idris Olaide, AkinyemiOmotola, Akinlotan James Kehinde and OlasandeEniola Israel.

Akinmolayan Nathaniel Temitope was elected Assistant Secretary-General of NAMSSN National body at the Conference.
